Empower Resources
Students are assets in their classroom. They have agency and independence to build self-efficacy. They are responsible for and recognized for their own learning and the learning of others.
Toolkit
Mentoring Toolkit
The foundation for this tool kit began when the author, Claudia Morrell, served as executive director of the Center for Women and Information Technology (CWIT), at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) from 1998 to 2008 to support her CWIT Scholars program. In 2018, the toolkit was dusted off and refreshed to better serve the students enrolled in secondary and postsecondary education Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.

Shared Effective Practices
Listening Tickets
Print and share listening tickets will all of your students. Encourage them to use their tickets when instruction is not taking place, giving them a chance to be heard privately.
Empowerment Cards
Empowerment Cards are a set of 10 postcards developed with the following goals in mind:
To help students become aware of the attributes (or gifts) and developing talents that they possess as evidenced by educators.
To build student self-efficacy and resiliency in educational settings (and beyond) by creating awareness of their gifts and talents.
The cards are based on a synthesis of Traits/Attributes developed by the International Baccalaureate (BO.org) and insights from the Speed of Trust: The One Thing that Changes Everything by Stephen M. R. Covey and Rebecca Merrill © 2006. To learn more about Empowerment Cards, email info@stemequityinitiative.org.
You may download these cards for your own use and modify them at no cost.
