Tailored Professional Development

  • Half- or full-day

  • Year-long engagement or more

Professional development includes in-person and virtual presentations. Current professional development can range from one hour to half-day to three-day sessions, with schools typically defining the timeframe or budget they need.

Our research and practice has shown that for transformational change longer engagement is required. However, shorter virtual or in-person engagements may be helpful for understanding the NEIR System Change Model for Education and on-boarding the people who are decision makers  and/or will be engaged.

The STEM Educator Initiative has expertise in collecting and analyzing data using a diverse set of tools. The primary source is the use of the Improvement Process, a keystone of our model that was developed based on the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model.

Unlike most educational nonprofits, the STEM Educator Initiative has on staff a statistician who has a PhD in the field, years of expertise as a faculty member, and is a nationally recognized consultant to the NIH. In addition, he has been recognized by the American Statistical Association (ASA) as a Fellow of the ASA, an honor afforded to only 5% of members. His expertise provides valuable insights on the value of what is needed for understanding the impact of any  STEM Educator Initiative effort to benefit teachers and students, an often overlooked outcome in program development and delivery.

“Reflecting on the tools I learned during the three-day professional development and the time working with other teachers in faculty learning communities has helped me over the year to identify ways to help students think more critically, apply more rigorous math and science, and solve problems at a higher level. I am really proud of what I achieved to better support my students’ learning. And we had fun!”
